Very smooth speaker and seems to have a British accent. Thanks for the video. Really inspiring.

Nehru Z shit . Bloody asshole .

I have both pride and sadness when I watch this. There is an absolute beauty in the British / Colonial English speaking style and mannerisms which the higher and political classes like Nehru exemplified. It's really a beautiful, moral, articulate culture. The great irony is, India during the times of this speech, was probably more Western, more modern, than it was after 30 years of Nehruvian Socialism. That's the sadness I have, great times, but his policies led to a closed economy.

@pawanlokesh Go to the nearest bookstore and by a copy of any of his books and read them (if u can). after you do that, introspect on what you said...or if you are so adamnt, go hang yourself

All people who criticise Nehru, just read "The Discovery of India" and "Freedom at Midnight". He gave this speech with no preparation at all. He was one of the best leaders to have been born into this world.

@trendywitch Thanks a ton for that ! I always think we put great people up on pedestals like they are Gods, then one find one flaw with them and throw them down. It holds good whether it is a leader or a sportsman or a musician. We need to appreciate great people for who they are humans with flaws who achieved great things.

He said that at the stroke of the midnight, when the world sleeps, India awakens to freedom. But, as the Earth is round, how there will be the same time all over the world? He himself used to change the time when he went overseas.

nehru was of course a great leader but congress used him for political ends

@blackleathershoes most honest is shree Anna Hazare
i don't care what the people on this page say about nehru, because i think he was- despite not being perfect- someone with remarkable vision, and earnestness to go with it. he was wholly dedicated to the nation and to his cause. i don't see how anyone, on hearing him speak or reading his books, can possibly doubt that. Just read The Discovery of India, and if you say that's bogus, then you'll have to be an extremely determined cynic.
