i don't care what the people on this page say about nehru, because i think he was- despite not being perfect- someone with remarkable vision, and earnestness to go with it. he was wholly dedicated to the nation and to his cause. i don't see how anyone, on hearing him speak or reading his books, can possibly doubt that. Just read The Discovery of India, and if you say that's bogus, then you'll have to be an extremely determined cynic.

agreed,but in restrospect,eventhough I am an Indian myself,I believe Jinaah would have been a better prime minister, who was again a visionary similar to Nehru but more competent in policy making, yes perfection in politics is very superficial but I belive Nehru who had more comparitive favouritism with Gandhiji, which I believe to be the catalyst for the partitions.

truly befitting words from the man who was the son of the richest lawyer in india, educated at harrow and cambridge but threw that away to spend years in jail to attain our freedom. yes, he initiated nepotism politics by bringing indira in politics, yes he failed in kashmir issue and china..but NOTHING can take away the fact that he was a great man...he had some vision for india...and it is for US to take the vision forward...rather than blaming the govt, we must BE the change than criticize it

that might be because he was standing in parliament at that time and also, he wrote mostly in english...even gandhi, self-confessed hardcore desi boy (sorry for the pun), spoke mostly in english ...very few of his speeches were in hindi

this is where u r wrong...nehru, despite his many MANY good qualities, started the nepotism politics...he , despite strong opposition from congress leaders, made indira enter politics....he even expelled some leaders so that she can be a MP...else, this man and his brains were awesome. also, he ACTUALLY had some vision for india
