Part 1 - Mark Shea examines the African refugee experience in Tasmania. The African community started arriving in Tasmania in 1994 and since then 1,700 people have arrived, with 60%-70% settling in greater Hobart, and the remainder settling in and around Launceston.

Sudan, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Ethiopia are some of the communities now represented in Tasmania.

Experience in Africa - Part One

What do we really know about Africa and our new African neighbours. Is the picture painted of Africa by the international media a fair portrayal? And how does one move on from the atrocities of war, famine and genocide?

Mark interviews Irene Nyrasaldmana about surviving the Rwandan Genocide as an eight year child, and how she now views her life as a precious gift.

This is a four part mini doco series

  • To all the xenophobic, racist, so called Australian patriots who have expressed their overwhelming ignorance here: I suggest that you research the role of Afghan traders and Chinese labour in building Australia (likewise indentured ((enslaved)) Aboriginal labour). For more information on Africa and how European colonisation created the mess it is in now I suggest reading "Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad and "Things Fall apart" By Chinua Achebe and having a good think about it

  • I am so sick of Australians being so Ignorant! You are a multicultural country! Stop trying to say you have a set Culture becasue you don't. We all bleed the same colour. We don't choose where we are born! Australian is not a race its a nationality and australians need to wake up a realise this. Aborigionals are the only true Aussies and they were bloody slaughtered!!

  • @henryford1488 Get over it, or kill your self. Blacks aint going ANYWHERE!!! If you hate multiculturalism, fuck off back to Europe and take the white americans with you. The US is stolen land

  • @henryford1488 you mad?

  • There humans beings and as a human being myself,my wants are simple, happiness, inner peace and to live a full healthy life and my guess is, they want the same as indeed every human wants,so it's a little disturbing from reading the comments here the lack of compassion shown here.

  • Keep Australia white! Fuck multiculturalism.

    White Aussie Pride. <3

  • not too many africans please.......pretty please, otherwise i will stop paying taxes in this stupid country.

    LOL

I can't comprehend that someone still can spread such an obvious bullshit. Living conditions in Africa actually improved during colonization, and have been worsening since decolonization, which is evident e.g. from the decrease of average height.

  • @cronullariotsskaf And that's what's so wonderful on this diversity! LOL

  • @h4tchetman Maybe there are lots of Australians, who don't want to embrace differences in crime, IQ and sociopathic behaviour.

  • Yeah right, and when you get enough of them in Australia then you will see the problems arrise. Bringing them to Australia by the thousands you are feeding the Bear.

  • @xcartapillar Pretty scary huh?
