What are the key characteristics of Video Art and how did Video Art come about? This lecture will trace the development of Video Art from the Sixties when the first affordable video cameras provided artists with a platform to document performances and concepts. It will also showcase the development of video technology and explore how video installations could be used to deal with issues of identity, spirituality and perception, and how such installations were used to make statements and tell stories that market-obsessed broadcast television stations usually ignore.

Main Artists: Nam June Paik, Gary Hill, Bill Viola, Bruce Nauman, William Wegman, Eije-Liisa Ahtila, Mathew Barney, Mariko Mori
