If it was harder for White men to advance than it is for minorities, then why is the upper-class still predominately White? Why is the poor/working class made up of mostly minorities? Why are prisons filled with mostly Black men? White people had affirmative action in schools long before minorities, they're called Legacies. Lots of white kids in Ivy League schools only got in because mommy and daddy went there.

not a problem but a "red herring" is completely untrue.

I don't mean to be rude or undermine your point, or act like I'm some expert on racism. I'm not, all I can do is speak from my experience as a white teenage girl, an experience which has personally lead me to the conclusion that white racism is definitely a problem.

sexist, materialistic music, have pressure to be non-intellectual (I'm not saying it's as bad as the pressure that black people face, it's not, but all kids feel pressure to not be nerdy (and in my group of friends, it's complicated by a pressure TO be nerdy, but that's another story)) and yes, white kids can have shitty, shitty parents (shocking, I know). high school level, that alone is proof that racism is still alive and kicking in America, and that is a problem that needs to be acknowledged. It doesn't mean that their aren't other problems, and if you're black you're more able to speak on the problems in the black community than I am, so I don't disagree with that part of your comment; I'm in no place to do so (although I'd argue that several of the items you listed are problems in the white community too- white kids listen to

If you believe that white racism isn't a problem in America, you're deluding yourself. I'm a white person who acknowledges my priviledge and tries my best not to be a jackass about race, and part of that is admitting that white privilege exists. Even my most liberal, "hip" white friends, who'll tell you off for saying slurs against gay or mentally disabled people (as they should) still say incredibly racist things while insisting that they're not really racist. Problems plaguing the black community (in no particular order):

Children are taught to reject education.

Irresponsible parenting.

Widespread drug abuse.

Popular music culture which teaches materialism, and to degrade women and blacks as whole.

Ridiculous crime rates, including murder.

90% of children born out of wedlock.

Popular culture which glorifies violence and crime.

With so many problems, only a moron would still focus on the red herring which is "white racism".

Everyone in this country has equal opportunity. The problem is that many black people segregate themselves, and put themselves in a world that's different than the one every other American lives in (of all races). Because of this self-segregation, they carry the same mindset as African Americans in per se, the South in the 1960's. Thinking you need BET, JET magazine, Black Women's magazine, The Black music awards, etc...is built from fear and paranoia that is this theory called white privilege.
