Hoss, cut three more slits in the reel. one opposite of the cut they have, then two to match the other end, pull your cord into one of the slots, then wrap a rubberband lenthwise around the reel sliding it into all 4 slots.....works like a charm.....

With the chalk bag, you can have both ends of the line hanging out.So you can anchor one end and pull out the free end instead of having to pull it all off the spool before fastening it to something. I would like to see countycomm design a similar system out of high grade nylon and have MOLLE/PALS webbing to attach it to a pack. This spool looks cumbersome to load, and noisy to deploy, and its 30 $. I'd say most of the price is going to the carabiner that barely opens.

I was thinking about getting this thing, but, I came up with a better way to carry 550 line. I tried stuffing some into a rock climbing chalk bag. You can get a LOT of 550 into one of those. It also has two belt loops on it that will work with any gear that has PALS webbing or really any kind of strap. It deploys from the chalk bag effortlessly, and most of them have an open top with a cinch cord and a cord lock, allowing you to adjust the drag on the line. It will hold well over 100 ft

I use 2 half hitches around the whole spool. Then hook tag thru the lock off. No issues at all
