Detroit 3 Los Angeles 1

This was the final game of Karl Malone's career and the final game Gary Payton and Shaquille O'Neal (as well as most of the Lakers other than Kobe) would play in the Purple & Gold. Pistons' defense dominated this series, and if not for Bryant's heroics in game 2, the Pistons would've swept away the Lakers. Chauncey Billups continued to shut down Gary Payton, and the Lakers would search for a 3rd option behind KB8 and Snaq - they would never find it.

Bryant finishes with:
24 points
3 rebounds
4 assists
1 steal
3 turnovers
7/21 on field goals
0/2 on three pointers
10/11 on free throws

  • I miss this Pistons team. They did it the right way with hard work and team ball. Not what that imposter team is doing right now.

  • no wonder Lakers couldn't win when Medvedenko played in the starting lineup

  • LOL, Doc Rivers was a broadcaster

  • 88-89 Pistons were the greatest defensive team ever.

  • @sera7ares

you right about that. lets see lf we even a playoff team.

    really hope so.

  • "Big numbers come from lesser knowns" That quote always inspires me

  • @Ldale11 Actually, if they drafted any of the big time players, they wouldn't have won ANY rings, cause they would have traded some of these key players in order to accommodate the young star(s). So in a sense, picking Darko was the best pick they made.

  • this is a prime example of "defense wins championships"

  • damn.. who's the hot girl at the start?

  • 9:14

    for the tip-off

    You're welcome :)
