If Carlsberg did night clubs then this would be it. An iconic nightspot that was cherished by everyone in the North-east who loved rock music.
Sadly it closed in 1999 to make way for The Gate retail and leisure complex. Just about every classic rock band appeared at the Mayfair during its time including AC/DC, Ozzy Ozbourne, Uriah Heep, Motorhead and many many more!

My favourite place of all time..!!! Went there every Friday night from about 1972 til late 80`s early nineties when i moved away from toon..! Saw some excellent bands there...met some excellent people too...haven`t seen many of them in years...ahhh the memories..!! R.I.P. The Mayfair... : (

Well if there is a life hereafter, I'd certainly be happy to spurn the choirs and angels for another night at the Newcastle Mayfair. Soul for sale, no reasonable offers refused ;)

Loved visiting when I came up from London to see my mum in the 80's. Always remember girls dancing round their handbags whilst us blokes would be going mental, great fun
