This is a complete playthrough of Sonic Chaos (also known as Sonic & Tails in Japan) for the Sega Game Gear. All the Chaos Emeralds are collected. This is not a speed run, in fact I try to show most of the levels by exploring them to some extent instead of picking the fastest path all the times. After I collected all the Chaos Emeralds, though, I admit I played through a couple of levels a bit faster.

Enjoy.

  • Why don't you play as tails? It's the only time you'll be able to select him as a character in a true sonic game for a long time

  • @TheMojopo Because Tails can't enter the special stages, and therefore he can't collect the chaos emeralds.

  • So you collect the the last emerald then... you get trapped into the emerald and no matter how much Sonic runs, and can't escape the emerald, he's stuck there until the "End."

    Wow, that's pretty dark.

  • lol spoke too soon, each stage seems different. that's really cool

  • so the chaos stages are just flying around? doesn't seem very hard but i'll keep watching, i'm sure they get harder!

  • the ''SEGA!'' sound rapes your ears and it sounds like on a GBA.

  • While the last three zones actually are interesting to play, the first three feel rather bizarrely designed. Especially Turquoise Hill, where you can skip over entire sections with that rocket power-up, and the Sleeping Egg, which is a mostly destructible environment.

The special stages are utter shit, though. And I don't know why they decided to end the current act upon collecting 100 rings instead of letting you finish first. Were they really just that excited to show you those awful stages?

  • 23:17 Well, so much for partonizingly basic, eh?

I also really like the special stage concepts in this game. Having them be 'test your skill' trials as opposed to "GRAB ALL THE RINGS/BLUE SPHERES/WHATEVER AND WE DON'T CARE IF YOU SUCK AT IT" is a really a refreshing change, and one that I'd like to see return in future games, if Sega even remembers that this game exists. After all...

    "Game Gear? (laughs) No."
