  • Great video, it really made me think.I completely agree with what you say about life being a proactive thing and something you have to participate in, even when it may not be the easiest thing. Oh and good luck with all the changes you have going on in your life :)

  • @itsourtime326 Thanks love!

  • The ONE thing I remember about the philosophy class I took in undergrad was that I do NOT agree with Kantian ethics.

But you know, from the things you said about philosophy made me realize how much philosophy overlaps with literary theory, which is what I'm studying a lot. Do you know Saussure? The "I experience it this way but that's not universal" reminded me of the signifier/signified concept.

    Fascinating! Good job!

  • @JamieDanger I haven't even heard of that philosopher... I'll look into it. Where I go to school currently is split really heavily between classic universalists and post modernists. Hence, why I am so conflicted sometimes. Ha!

  • @TheDirtyService Sorry for the confusion; Saussure isn't a philosopher. He's was a linguist, who moved into literary theory. He essentially invented what's called "Structuralism." Essentially, just because something is called something doesn't mean that's what it is. For example, the word "chair" (the signifier) doesn't necessarily conjure up the same image for everyone (the signified: armchair, kitchen chair, etc.), so the word "chair" doesn't really mean anything specific... it's confusing!

  • @JamieDanger That sounds like a mindfuck. I'll definitely look into him. Care to recommend a specific work of his?

  • really looking forward to your contribution to the collab channel!

  • your audition was so good! you are so well spoken and so pretty (and your kitten is adorable). I'm so glad we get to be part of this group!

  • Opening cat claws was cool. And GREAT user name! Best of luck!

  • @TheDirtyService I think most ofhis stuff is linguistics heavy, since all that he said was essentially about linguistics, then it sort of migrated to literary theory. Also, he really didn't write much of his stuff down, so a lot of what we have is from his students, etc., through lecture notes.

If you take a literary/critical theory class, you'll learn all about him! (and Barthes, and Foucault, and Lacan...)
