Like creationists, climate-change deniers often ask for us to 'prove' our side with facts. When obliged those facts are usually thrown out as biased and not worthy of consideration. In a recent discussion on climate change with JMehrman ( http://www.youtube.com/user/JMehrman ) he asked for references and when I gave him four they were immediately dismissed as biased.

  • I like how RebelStangII is saying that global warming is false, because, according to him - 'They donth ave no cows or suvs on the mars yet its warmer there i guess algor is a lier!'

He seems to not understand that an average temperature of negative 80 degrees Fahrenheit is, you know, COLDER than the average temperatures here...

  • And Mars is a good comparison because it is only 36 million miles farther from the sun than we are and is 1/3 the mass of Earth.

Still, evidence is solid that it had liquid water at one time, for just about a billion years. Pretty amazing.

  • Here's a question LithodidMan.

What IF both the Bible and Anthropogenic g w are contrived propositions to manipulate social thinking into a self depreciating mind-set bruv?

Think about it... those of low self esteem are easy to steer.

I like your rounded-perspective delivery though. Refreshing.

  • @LithodidMan

I apologise. It's directed at the wingnut passing motorists. The 'Sean Nannity' thing is directed at those who believe there's nothing to worry about since Jesus is coming to save them anyway. I was being sarcastic.

As my old man used to say, 'fill a bucket full of shit and you'll end up with a bucket full of shit.'

    --

Bizarrely, those who fill this planet with shit think they'll be awarded with Jesus smileys on judgement day. I can't wait LOL. I hope god is a hippy.

  • @TheElasticJesus I am not sure if this was meant for someone else.... I accept AGW as a fact, I have seen and even worked with some of the evidence. What's with the "Sean Nannity" thing?

  • @LithodidMan Faux News continues to slam the 'irrefutable' evidence of AGW However, the IPCC scientists have only ever said: 'STRONG POSSIBILITY.' Belief should be left to juries, the pious & Faux News However, certain facts are irrefutable and should be regarded as such a) CO2 IS a GH gas b) More CO2 is pumped into the atmosphere every year c) Deforestation (RF absorbs 20-25% CO2) continues at an alarming rate --- What happens next, other than rapture, Sean Nannity?
  • Just as a follow up, sorry for the errors in my previous comments. :P

  • (Continuing)

It's not a matter of who is biased either way though, at least on this issue, just a matter of who's bias is right.

Second though, if this person is a global warming "denier," then they're not basing it on Glenn Beck or anyone I know of, as even Glenn Beck admitted that global warming might be anthropogenic, though he didn't know to what extent. See the first chapter of "An Inconvenient Book: Real Solutions to the World's Biggest Problems, if you care to.

  • This is kinda an agree and a disagree.

I would agree that you shouldn't dismiss evidence based on bias, but it's not one side that's doing it, it's both. I'm not saying you're necessarily dismissing them as I don't know what you've read on the subject, but even you pointed out that some people on the contra side are probably simply writing because they're getting paid by Big Oil.

    (cont.)

  • If you want to remake the world economy because of a possible threat it you better have ironclad evidence and a plan that will address the problem. The alarmist have a lot of circumstantial evidence and all of the big polices are little more than power grabs. I also love how alarmist use the idea that money taints their opponents. Last I checked a 300 million, tens of BILLION, hundreds of BILLION, to a TRILLION is more than 23 million.

  • I tend to think that even if you could find these sources, deniers will find ways to ignore them out-of-hand. When the belief comes first and the evidence for it follows, you'll only be interested in the evidence that backs up the belief. As Nick recently said, "I believe in science, when it backs up the Bible."

  • I'M A MAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNN!
