In anticipation of the novelty wearing off from our new fitness habit, this video discusses the psychology of success, failure and homeostasis. We are continuing to value and honor our goal. Despite any obstacles that may suddenly seem to take precedence.
Weeks 5 - 7 we are solidifying our two habits of going to the gym and eating breakfast.
This week's terms:
Homeostasis
- returning to balance. In this case, our tendency to give in to the fear of the unknown; which translates to fear of success, and all the unknowns of a new lifestyle: responsibilities, risks, commitments, social roles, circles of friends. We are departing from our normal life and complacency with the familiar.
Internal/External Locus of Control
- the psychological perception of what controls us. Control is internal. Can we perceive it?
Obstacles? Here's why I haven't made a video in two weeks:
1. Youtube access cut off from the govt. due to recent "internal" political problems.
2. Started a new job that had me going to various companies all over town in arbitrary schedules.
3. Attacked by two muggers who tried to break my skull from behind with a construction block. It didn't work. I fought them with aikido. Aikido works on the street. (Otherwise I would be a sidewalk stain right now). But needless to say I was a bit preoccupied for a few days. I'm fine, they never touched me again after that first strike. Fortunately my pregnant wife still has me around. TIC as we expats say.
Pretty powerful obstacles, eh? Not powerful enough to get me to quit my fitness goal!
What's your excuse? : )
