Those Popular Mechanics ads were mostly from mail order schools that would teach you to repair the circuitry in the TV sets. Rebuilding the tubes was something else entirely, and that was done commercially by businesses that specialized in that service. I doubt that many TV repair shops ever attempted to do their own CRT rebuilding.

I doubt that many TV repair shops ever attempted to do their own CRT rebuilding.
