man man man!!!! that guys were almost crasy ..(very brave) one mistake or mecanic failure ,you are a dead man.Today the pilots dont need to be fear or they even dont know what is fear. But for me, the old pilots are the best ,becouse they know what is fear ,and they ran pretty close of the limit.Today pilots are like the Virtual simulation pilots, almost no risk.

Arnoux is driving the car and they didn't use the turbo until 1977 at brands hatch

@boilingpoint2 they had up to 1400hp ;) (using the turbo)

@McLarenMercedes 1 bar of boost equals 14.7 psi which is atmospheric pressure. So 5 to 6 bar is about 75-90 psi boost ( rounding up to 15 psi / bar ), combine that with the nasty fuel cocktail and a crazy driver with the red mist in his eyes is pure racing enjoyment.

@McLarenMercedes Lack of good fuel and cooling among others would give any turbo engine a hard time....
Did they try water/alcohol inject?

Renault had many problems with their new turbo engines in the 70´s.
Lack of good fuel among others got to detonation and cracked/melted pistons
Just look how much balls these guys had... Insane...

The power of a Veyron with an engine the size of the dump I took the other day

i grew up in this era,it proved to be the most exiting, now they need to get rid of all downforce in my opinion, and just focus on mechanical grip

@doubts Arnoux and Prost almost always did single rev downshifts where they would skip gears. One big rev as you move down 2 or 3 gears. Worked fine if you had the patience to wait a split second longer to downshift in your braking zone. Doing too early would lock up the rears.
Arnoux was quick, but a bit of a hack. No fear though!

what's the power ?
Did the cars back then take into account the size of balls these drivers must have had ?
