To answer your question about Flare, HCBailly, I prefer the non-elemental version. I never use it in Final Fantasy 7 for two reasons: 1) By the time you get that spell, many of the enemies absorb fire, and 2) You're likely to have stronger magic at the time you learn it.

Flare should always be non-elemental IMO, (I say this VERY, VERY long after the video has been uploaded even though I watched it the day it was uploaded.... or maybe I did comment and forgot about the comment I made about this subject.) just because... I'unno it just seems right.

If the two maps have the exact same aspect ratio, then layering them will show a "complete" map.

As the game shows only one aspect ratio, yes they would look the same. (They might even have actually done it to save cart space)
