Randy Hultgren, Illinois' 14th District Congressman, met several times this week with voters during the current Congressional summer break. The two town hall meetings I taped saw angry votes with facts, figures and common sense trying to move Hultgren off his "no tax raises" position. His most oft repeated refrain, "I'll have to look into that" wore thin at both meetings. He failed to answer questions directly and was forced back time after time again to repeat the same stale refrain, lowering taxes on the wealthy creates jobs/raising taxes kills jobs. Never mentioning Reagan's tax increase in the early eighties and Clinton's in the 90's which are both credited with raising job levels. Shaken at seeing both Republicans and Democrats applauding in agreement in opposition to his commitment to Grover Norquist's "tax pledge" it will be interesting to see his comments when back in Washington. Just how will he describe his visit with the 14ths' voters. Nice?

  • Listen to the 6 year old Tea Bagger at about 10:30 when people tell him to be quiet while other people are talking, "No, come make me!"

  • Of course there's a dumbass Teabagger in the front decrying every salient point the crowd makes.

  • The people in the room give me hope for America's future. The congressman just depresses me.

  • I love the lady that begins speaking at 4:25 / she is so right on the money (so was the lady who spoke just before her)

  • WERE"S THE EVIDENCE!!!!!

  • I LOVE YOU PEOPLE!!! AMERICA can be good again.

  • @PaineGuy

Excellent point. I could not agree more. You are right. Trickle down economics only help the ultra rich.

  • Hultgren Doesn't really believe in government providing social safety nets like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid; doesn't worry about corporate take over of government; isn't concerned about the struggling and disappearing middle class or the extreme concentration of wealth at the top; and He isn't losing any sleep over the planet racing toward a climate disaster either.

  • @dsm1993 This is a very ostensible and specious argument. You conveniently neglected an entire recession and housing market crash!! Where does that factor into your equation for employment?? Obama wasn't president in 2007 so can't blame him for everything. Besides all that your argument doesn't make a clear connection between liberalism and tax cuts. Even if I wanted to believe you, you fail to explain how this "obamacare" created 18-20% unemployment other than stating that it does.

  • These people make me love America again.
