  • Thank You for helping make our stay more enjoyable in our second home. We miss the people and the place, Fussball, Bier und die Maedchen ;)

    Danke Schoen, mein Freund

  • So the Rock at the end was not the same Rock at KG? The Rock that had the 1st AD patch on it was still at KG when KG shut down in 97. I was confused when you said the rock was moved in early 90's. So there ended up being two rocks? Just checking for confirmation.

  • @InfantryFilmMakerDJ

The info was based on the statement made by Peter, who said the the Rock now at Ray Barracks, was the same that was located at the intersection at KG. For whatever reason, he must have been confused as to the year it was transported over to Ray Barrack. Peter Buschmaas was the Ray Barrack facility engineer from 77-08 and was present when the KG Rock was put on a flat bed and brought to Ray Barracks. He, based on the request of the then Garrison Cmdr, hired the stone mason.

  • I wonder how the economy is holding in Friedberg without the troops in Ray Barracks.

I had talked with then Mayor Micheal Keller and he did anticipate some impact on the local shops, restaurants & Bars that had been frequented by us and our dependants. But he had faith that all would survive the closing of the Post and loosing all of their "Honorary Citizens"

  • Great video clip, it brought tears to my eyes. I was stationed in Ray Barracks. Great Americans served our country proudly in this place. Thanks again! CSM Gonzalez, A/501st FSB 1SG 2000-2005

  • I had the fortune to visit in August of 01, in May of 2004 and then for the closing of the Garrison in 2007, when I took the videos. Was stationed at Schloss Kaserne, Butzbach 70-72, 503 MP Co, 3AD, then to CIDC at IG Farben (Abrams Complex later) in Frankfurt from 72-74.

  • Thanks so much for uploading this video. I haven't seen these buildings since I left in 1990, and I feel a strange homesickness. Friedberg was where I spent some of the best and worst years of my life. I miss it so much. Central Studio, the Spotlight, The Joint...I could go on and on. Pillars of Thunder.

  • Man, what a head trip.

I was looking for something else and landed here.

The last time I looked at these buildings was in October, 1969.

    I was an 11E armor crewdog with C Co.3/32nd Armor, 3rd AD 1967 - 1969.

A hell of a lot has changed in the intervening 38 years.

I still miss that place, the town and the people I knew.

(However like some others I don't miss those 0200 move out alerts etc.)

Thanks for posting all of the vids you did.

Great Stuff, I'll be back once in a while just to ............

  • @shyler450 I couldn't agree more! Great base...and town, as for the unit....that's another story!

  • Wow! Well this video certainly brings back memories!

  • @mucasa1 Friedberg is just not the same without Ray Barracks and the US Soldiers. My heart hurts everytime I drive by the main gate.

  • Thank you for posting this. I was stationed there in 85-88. Talk about your stroll down memory lane! The people of Friedberg were so hospitable. Wonderful people and a wonderful country.

  • I was stationed here from 58-60. Elvis served the same time I did, but he lived off base in Bad Nauheim. He drove his MG back and forth to base. He made rank, PFC, and passed out big cigars. To my wife's dismay, I smoked it. He was a real gentleman and a great soldier. My wife was there with me living in Friedburg. Standing on the corner at the bus stop with some other American GI's wives. Elvis would come around the corner in his MG and wave, and they would melt. Thanks for video!
