If he's been actually kickboxing for 3 years he'll likely smash if you try that. Your best bet for defense would be to find quality wrestling/BJJ private lessons and drill your take downs and top control. You can then completely eliminate his advantage by putting him on his back.

maybe but also research pressure points knocks outs (hitting in the neck mainly) and then start building up to swimming 1 mile a week. then soon you will be strong and then have the fighting armoury by this research.
