California Can Cut Costs Without Harming Vulnerable Populations: Video Argues Case of Severely Autistic Adult Son Living at Home with Nursing Supports Costing Thousands LESS than if he were living in a State funded Institution. Assembly Aging and Long-Term Care Committee must understand NOT everyone can keep their autistic child home. There is still a need for some form of out of home care, for families who can't have their child at home for a variety of reasons. However, for those families who can keep their child at home, it not only saves the state MILLIONS over time, but is often SAFER, provided the family is given proper home supports. You have to fight for the support. Nobody is going to just hand it to you.
What an awesome mom. If SHE can't even deal with the bureaucracy, I shudder to think how less-than-super-hero parents would manage...

you are so very right.. I served on the RCOC board for many years and the cost to keep him in fairview is 3 to 4 times the cost of keeping him at home. However the services paid for by the Regional center should be solely based on his needs. Shame on the RC for not helping you in this matter,,,its is an exceptional case. Bless your heart you should not be fighting this fight.

My brother has a kind of Autism too - Asperger's Syndrome, which is nothing compared to what Jamey has!
This just makes me furious and upset because I know that Jamey and people like him get this simple help and care. PEOPLE JUST DON'T CARE!!!!!!!!!!!!
