REALLY? How about America's fascination with thin white actresses for like 80 years?

The character's personality has nothing to do with the appearance of the actress. Good try backpedaling on your extremely rude comment. Lena Dunham is AT MOST 15lbs overweight, nowhere near Melissa McCarthy or Rebel Wilson. Even if she were it's still rude.

Ok, I was only responding to your opinion on the looks of the actresses, not the personalities of the characters. Yes, they're annoying and somewhat brattish, however compare it to a show like Gossip Girl where characters look like wax figurines and it feels like you're taking a breath of fresh air. I have nothing on Gossip Girl though - I'm just noticing that Girls has a different, more realistic take on life. Is that a good thing? I don't know.

Hmmmmm...okay. When I read Lena Dunham was the “voice of her generation”, that is the most scathing condemnation of a generation possible. The four main characters have such boring and obnoxious personalities that anyone who can relate to them should be ashamed. Aside from all four being over privileged brats, each brings her own unforgivable personality defects to the table. It's like an upscale version of Jersey Shore but w/ makeup on.

This is an interesting comment. I was thinking today after watching the trailer for 'Beautuiful Creatures' that Hollywood has this obsession with beautiful people, which stems from the obsession of the general populus with beautiful people, which Hollywood feeds. It's like the more beautiful people we see on screen, the more horrified we are when we see an average-looking person on screen. That is why I find this show so refreshing - it's not following this unhealthy hype about formulaic beauty.

I agree wholeheartdly w/ that statement. However, the main character in the show is just as ugly in the inside. Thats probably what I should've said first.

I don't think attractiveness is the most important aspect when choosing an actor. Unless it's written in the script that the character is supposed to be attractive it really doesn't matter.
