The Time Dollar Youth Court has faced closure due to budget cuts before. Back in April of 2007, the Youth Court had to close its doors temporarily when the DC Government unexpectedly eliminated funding for the city's only diversion program. Youth Court participants rallied, sharing their stories with the media, and marching to save Youth Court during the DC voting right rally. The pressure worked: Mayor Fenty approved funding for the program, and made a personal commitment to keeping Youth Court's doors open.
