Many clever people have worked incredibly long hours and done some amazing things with 2D to 3D conversion, however, the brief up until now has been to just 'add some depth' to the movies. In return, the market has responded without much enthusiasm for converted films compared to films that were actually shot in 3D.

This webinar will explain how to use camera tracking to measure the scene and recreate the true depth of the photographed material. We will also examine how to place geometry at the correct depth within the scene and we'll demonstrate how to add animated characters at exactly the right depth.

Using Autodesk® Maya® and Autodesk Flare®, we'll explain what the FBX® 2012 interchange format is and how to use it for interoperability between the two apps. Finally, we'll demonstrate the use of camera based projection and show you how subtle nuances can really bring a shot to life.

Although we'll be mainly working inside Autodesk Flare and Maya, many of the techniques shown will be useful no matter what platform you're on.

Presenter:
Sam Edwards is a veteran of seven stereoscopic films, including Journey 3D, Avatar, and Alice 3D. He has worked in over 40 feature films in VFX with such clients as ILM, Digital Domain, Asylum, Blue Sky Studios, Imaginary Forces, Warner Brothers, plus many others.

Sam has also freelanced with Hydraulx, Fox, Method Studios and Meteor and has a BS in Cinematography and Photography from Southern Illinois University.

  • amazing

  • I think they used Autodesk Flare, a application only available for Linux. And pretty extensive.

Also I´m asking me if it wouldn´t be a lot more effective to just use a simple 3d camera rig?

  • which application is used to do so?

  • Thanks

  • this video is too large

  • Looking at the end with my 3D glasses. Cool!

  • what you know can get people to know you
