Winning entry in the 2010 UAV Outback Challenge Video Documentary Competition.

More details on the UAV Outback Challenge can be found here:
http://www.uavoutbackchallenge.com.au...

The UAV Outback Challenge is a competition to create and fly an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) in a search area near Kingaroy Airport (QLD), locate a lost bushwalker (Outback Joe), deliver a package to him, and return safely to the airport - all automated (except takeoff and landing) and all within a one hour timeframe.

Sponsored by Boeing, the Queensland Government, QUT, the CSIRO and many others, one of the aims is to bring the usefulness of UAV and the development into the public domain, as well as further the development of the technology required to achieve success.

There are many rules and regulations regarding spectrum compliance for transmissions, GPS waypoints, Geofencing, automatic termination, etc. All of this is compounded with the fact that the competition is closed to commercial UAV companies - everyone is either an amateur or university team!

This year is the fourth that the event has been run - and the closest anyone has gotten (not our boys though, but the University of North Dakota team got out there and dropped the bottle - just a tad too early unfortunately! Good work UND team if you're reading this!)

The Video Documentary Challenge is a side competition to the main event. The goal is to tell the story of one of the teams entering the UAV Challenge in an entertaining manner.

Here is the story of Latitude 38s UAV - two eager lads from (near) Melbourne that have goals and dreams of rescuing that directionally-challenged individual named "Outback Joe"...
