Ugh.

Someone who has the ear of Glenn Beck has made him think Net Neutrality has something to do with the Fairness Doctrine.

IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE!

In fact, it has nothing to do with regulating CONTENT at all! The Net Neutrality movement seeks to PREVENT Internet service providers from regulating your Internet traffic based on the content of your data packets.

Net Neutrality should appeal to Libertarians. The concept is basically this:
HEY, ISP! STOP MESSING WITH MY PACKETS!

Don't open-up my packets to see what's inside. Don't throttle based on what's contained. Just deliver each packet to the destination.

  • HR-3458 or the ACTUAL bill in question for Net Neutrality seems all good and dandy until you read the final three lines at the end of the document. It is a definition for: "Reasonable Network Management". Unfortunately that definition says it is to be defined by the FCC.

Yep . . . that's right people THE FCC WILL DEFINE WHAT IS REASONABLE AND WHAT IS NOT . . . NOT CONGRESS AND NOT HR-3458!!!

You lefts and rights need to pull your heads out of your asses and realize this is a grab for power!

  • @BaradaNels

Glenn didn't seem to refer to a specific bill or clause. He has stated that he's against the idea of Net Neutrality. His explanation of Net Neutrality shows that he simply doesn't know what it is.

The concept of Net Neutrality is actually the opposite of what GB thinks it is. If it would be related to censorship at all, it's ANTI-censorship and PRO free-speech (communication).

  • @jevansturner The phrase: "Net Neutrality" means exactly what you said. But I am guessing you have not read any "Net Neutrality" legislation . . . because if you did . . . you would not give a flying rats ass what Glenn Beck thinks or doesn't think. You would be spreading the word that "Net Neutrality" legislation is nothing more than ANTI-Net Neutrality political BS.

  • @BaradaNels

I understand that the current bill contains some clauses that are contradictory to the concept of Net Neutrality (thanks for pointing it out).

I'm concerned that Glenn Beck actually tells people that Net Neutrality has something to do with censorship and the Fairness Doctrine (suggesting that we should oppose Net Neutrality).

Net Neutrality is a necessity. However, there are serious concerns about THIS particular proposal and it may not solve anything.

I work for an ISP and I see first-hand why NN is necessary. In a big city, you might be able to choose a high-speed ISP. Most of the country has only 1 choice. The 1st provider to reach an area may be the last. Other telecoms can't afford to build in an area where they'll get few customers because another provider is already there.

  • @CZroe haha and you understand it? net neutrality will lead to the complete control of the internet by g-men. im telling you right now. in 3 years. the FCC will call for more power and more controls. noone is forcing you to buy internet from these providers. and don't give me that "0they are the only one i CAN buy from" crap. the only reason why they have regional monopolies is because government gets paid to not allow other providers.

  • @CZroe

I just don't know anyone who's PUBLICLY against it on either political side...with the exception of Glenn Beck.

I'm pretty sure only big telecom executives are against Net Neutrality.

  • @FreeMeFromG It's all perspective. Both sides call the other fascist Nazis and draw comparisons to Hitler. Because Net Neutrality protects a free market, I would expect all conservatives to be for it but many only see Net Neutrality itself as a regulation on a free market. They are just misguided because they aren't computer geeks like we who understand it. If everyone knew, it would have near 100% support.

  • @CZroe I always thought the Rep were against Net Neutrality.

If you guys are for it, then welcome on the Net Neutrality train, glad to have you aboard my fellow American.

I really feel the internet is the last place you and I have a real voice and a choice. Keeping the internet unbiased is one of the only real hopes we have for a united country and world.

The internet has been able to do something that this country has failed time and again.

An entity by the people and for the people.

  • @FreeMeFromG

Open and free market principles = Right

Regulated and controlled markets = Left

Net Neutrality = generally supported by all sides

Everyone knows this. Stop trying to politicize it more than it already is just because it's Glen.

While some would argue against Net Neutrality in the name of open/free market principles, it is misguided because it would allow an ISP paid to provide a specific service to also disrupt the service of others and allow anti-competitive practices.
