  • Vastly outnumbered, the US hinged their victory on the boldness and bravery of a few airmen who flew off those decks knowing they'd probably never see land again. With just a lick of fuel left, they fell upon the enemy armada, destroying the lifeblood of the Japanese Navy in mere minutes.

This battle is a story of America. What being an American used to mean. You take the resources you have and you take a god damn chance, fighting for an idea you knew was just.

  • @WellSightedGentleman The nucs were used not only for the purpose of forcing the Japanese (the Japanese military) into surrender, but as a show of force to the Russians. Unfortunately, war and world politics isn't a two sided coin...more like a Rubik's Cube. The bombs were horrible, but no more so than the fire bombings of Tokyo (or Dresden) which created more casualties than the nucs. Remember, the Generals of the time were still somewhat ruled by WW1 mentality.

  • @Tehui1974 I rather go watch the Fox.

  • This commentator grossly understates a few facts. When referring to the initial bombers he states "several never made it back". Almost all of them never made it back. Watch the BBC documentary on this, it's more objective.

  • Had Nagumo launched his strike ten or five minutes early, 10.15 for example and the history was complet different.

  • @elchippe thats very true. but thats no excuse to be complacent or pessimistic. the world will always change. you have to change with it. you also have to maintain some backbone so that it doesnt change you to death. God gave man authority over all things. but man has made many wrong choices with his free will. so there has to come along a man who will make the right choices for a change. its not impossible, but perhaps unlikely. what a shame. but we cant give up hope. that solves nothing.

  • @bigblondman1 The world is not the same anymore.

  • @Fabiolinks and vietnam?

  • america still means that. we just need the bold leadership to not compromise with enemies that threaten us. we need to give ultimatums instead. thats how you should handle the terrorists and the communist gov. of china. not puff up their arrogance by being nice. but deflate that arrogance by leaning hard on them. but it takes guts to do that. i for one havent seen any of that recently. that doesnt mean its not there there it just hasnt been shown for far too long. its about time its shown now.

  • @PoetsLight youre g**damn right, thank you.

  • @WellSightedGentleman con't... Many think that the hype over this is fear of the unknown and ignorance to the thought that anything radiological is dangerous. I am glad that other alloys are being developed and used to replace DU, but there is nothing as effective as it for punching holes in armor at great range.

  • @WellSightedGentleman con't... are not stable where open to weather. Most DU dust from armor strikes spontaneously ignites thereby neutralizing its effect. It will take time to see the real effects, but keep in mind that DU is used for many things other than weapons/armor.These include: ballast and counterweights; balancing control devices on aircraft; balancing and vibration damping on aircraft; machinery ballast and counterweights; gyrorotors and other shielding in medicine and industry. con't
