FIXED Video
Original had some problems. I've re-done it so now it syncs up properly. Ugh I need to stop experimenting and just go with what works already...

Anyway this is one crazy glitch that completely leaves the level and puts you on a wild flight with an invisible (non-existent) keg. The camera was going crazy at times where I could not control it properly (Never mind trying to keep Rayman on screen!)

Those tentacles popped up on the path (where in the other video they didn't), but it was so sudden here you could almost freak out.

I THINK I can half-way decipher this craziness. Apparently, the Pirates's blaster somehow triggers the Keg to explode, but it actually causes it to ignite, RIGHT before it exploded, which is why Rayman started to fly with it.

Rayman's flying animation can only be stopped 2 ways:
1)The Keg explodes (Rayman takes damage and is forced to let go)
2) He drops off the keg early (Pressing the A button)

Since he already took damage, the Keg explodes but you continue to fly. Nothing inanimate can hurt you while you are flying but the non-existant Keg, or dropping into dangerous water.

While flying like this, you pass through the graphics quite easily because there aren't really any invisible walls to prevent it (this is an old game so that's to be expected). Sometimes there's a white background, sometimes it's orange.

I have actually tried this on Whale Bay, the Keg right before the second section, but you have to actually have triggered a Keg and lit it on fire for the glitch to work. So there is there is one more level to try: The Echoing Caves. It's worth a shot.

  • I think I know why the barrel ignites! It's to do with pirates throwing flaming barrels.

If this is true, any shooting pirate has the ability to function as a barrel throwing pirate and vice versa. It would also mean that thrown keg=flying keg. Maybe someone could investigate and try to use that to their advantage.

  • But the thing is that you can't catch those kegs as they explode as soon as they touch you. The flame trails coming from those barrels are different than the ones you can see on the Keg you fly with.

Also, you must be in an area where manual ignition is possible before it works when a pirate shoots at you.

    See this: watch?v=TQpUG_2P_wk

  • does that mean you could skip the cave of bad dreams completely?

  • It might be possible though I haven't tried it with a new game yet.

Something tells me it should work and go to the third part of the Hills, but only if you manage to fly through the correct walls.

  • Here's how I decifer this craziness.

1 - the first small flight triggers an effect which lets the game know that flying with a keg is possible in that area.

2 - catching the keg in a damaged state from an explosion both explodes the barrel for your inability to do anything and ignites it for being similar to the torch, so, in short, the keg is letting you fly, without the keg.

  • #1 is probably absolutely correct.

With #2, I think you are right. With further testing I think the reverse however. Keg ignites from the shot, but since the angle is akwad, it blows up mid-flight on the ground or in his hands.

I found that while the Keg does explode, Rayman not being damaged from the blast (since he was already hurt) gets him stuck in the flying state.

  • You can do the same glitch ojn the 3ds two but you cant go out the boundreys and the sucks eggs

  • Wait, I think I know why the trails are different. Every ignition has parameters such as what music to start and when to start smoking. The blaster tells the barrel to start smoking immediately and no music to play.

  • Well, I knew the first paragraph and I tried the second paragraph in the Iron Mts. I couldn't pull it off. The pirates were too smart for me.

As for the third paragraph, it may serve to disprove the second paragraph. You had to ignite the barrel from the specific dispenser before it worked. Barrel-throwing pirates have their own in-built dispenser, which they ignite themselves. This proves to the game that ignition is possible from this "dispenser".

  • Oh, I SO hope this is also possible in Rayman Revolution!!

(Maybe they optomized the code, so that it's not possible anymore, but I really hope they didn't! =P)

Ah, well, even if it doesn't work in Revolution, I still have the PC version to try it out with!

  • omg if there's not a barrel in ps1 version that's super cool glitch

  • PS1 version haven't got a barrel

  • Superman Rayman! Can fly without barrel! XDXDXD

  • I am getting the PS2 version and will look into that.
