This video talks about why performance matters and what it means to a business and also discusses the latest product release from Riverbed, Stingray 9.0, 7 seconds might seem like a very long time but many web applications take even longer than that to respond, in fact research shows that the average user will wait only around 7 seconds before deciding to look elsewhere for information so it becomes critical that web applications, online websites, and internal intranet applications do deliver performance and activity for a business. So while 7 seconds is a long time, 250 milliseconds, just a quarter of a second, is a very short time but internet users are much more sensitive to time differences and can notice a difference of only one quarter of a second in the response time of an application so this survey published in the New York Times shows that just one quarter of a second was enough to influence the behaviour of users so they would visit a slow website less often than others. Seven seconds is a very short time so is a quarter of a second and while users are sensitive to performance to that degree, let's look at the business impact of that kind of performance as well. There are three types of impact to look at here, the first of these applies to e-commerce sitea, where one is interested in revenue and what users can see is that if they can increase the speed of response of an application, they'll see an increase in order value and products purchased, this comes from one of our customers: an eight percent increase in order value and a corresponding delivery into the bottom line. The second kind of business impact that one might look for is brand awareness, users are looking for people to engage more with the websites or with an application and to understand more about their business so here's another example where customers were able to show that the customers engaged with the website of the brand with ten percent more page views and by having an application which responds faster then users stay longer, they take more transactions and they tell their friends and that builds more impact to the business itself.
The third example here of impact is about productivity on intranet applications such a SharePoint and by making a page load from SharePoint or other applications such as SAP load that much faster then organizations have much more productivity from their employees they spend more time, they interact, they collaborate more.
This week the latest product release of Stingray is being introduced, Stingray 9.0 comes with three major headlines: the first is that they've integrated the Aptimizer technology for web content optimisation into the Stingray Traffic Manager platform so it'll address many more different kinds of applications, in particular online web applications any commerce sites in addition to applications on the WAN or across an intranet.
The second thing that they've done is they've also made Stingray Aptimizer available as a stand-alone solution so that if users are looking at an existing application or data centre where they have some ADC solutions for load balancing, for caching, and so on, this stand-alone solution will accelerate those applications directly without impact to the application or to the network infrastructure that is there. The third party announcement that they have is that they've made available a Stingray developer edition which is free to download and makes it much easier for users to understand and evaluate the kinds of technology Riverbed can offer these applications and the way in which they accelerate different parts of an application and work across the data centre.
