Over 700 square miles of highly populated areas of the California Central Coast will be sprayed with a new untested pesticide by the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA). The spray will be released from airplanes in the dark of night at 300 to 700 feet above homes and schools. They will spray residents every 30 to 90 days for years to come.

Residents are not allowed to know all the ingredients of the aerial spray because it would supposedly violate trade secret laws.

Aerial spraying is planned to start June 1, 2008 in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties and on August 1, 2008 for San Francisco Bay Area communities.

  • Excellent reporting by Channel 5! I'm impressed. That last line is hilarious.

I know someone who got extremely sick from the sprayings in Santa Cruz and has now moved to New Mexico.

I think the Fed Govt. isn't trying to eradicate this moth that hasn't done any agricultural damage but they are trying to eradicate us!

  • I became very ill after the spraying in Pacific Grove, suffering repeated asthma attacks which began about two hours the spraying.I left for two months, two weeks at a time, but always becoming ill again upon returning. No asthma problems the two weeks I was in Sacramento, or Fresno. After two months my symptoms were better, not gone. If the spray continues we will have to close our business, our employees will not have jobs, our community service-award winning insurance agency. We will leave CA

  • yes the apple moth is an invasive species and invasive species are very dangerous to native plant and ecological systems as they can completely deplete it. however, spraying toxins is only a temporary solution and i am sure there are better alternatives to fighting this invasive species.

  • It isn't the spray, it's the red tide caused by it.

  • who farted?

  • shut the fuck up

  • We breathe in airborne toxins far more harmful than this particular pesticide every time we leave our house. I find this preferable to the alternative of widespread annihilation of our produce crops. Think about it. Buying a 5 dollar head of lettuce sounds no less infuriating than the 5 dollar gallons of gasoline we were forced to pony up for a few months back.

  • you're a pest

  • The government is not happy to pay money for damages(money of which I'm sure they have alot of),so they risk our health and lives instead?....That makes alot of sense, really.

  • hey I have to pay my bills some way! I make 20Gs a year to tell people about the evil moths! The bad guys ARE after YOU!!!! And by the way yes...i am not a citizen... I come from... THE MOOOOON!!! HA HA HA DIEEEE EARTHLINGS!!! LORD XENU SHALL RULE YOU ALL

  • Yea, and I have some ocean frount property in Phoniex to sell you. I don't even believe you are a real citizen. You are working to spread this misinformation and the bad quys are paying you. Population control is wrong!! You will not go unpunished.

  • OH YES THE MOTH IS A RISK! One attacked my apple the other day! WE HAVE TO SPRAY! We have to save our children from these moths. people against it just dont understand how bad they are
