"For the jesus stories there are no other contemporary sources".
Well thats where you're wrong because the Jewish historian Flavius Josephus wrote of Jesus Christ.
But why was a good moral man like Jesus Christ crucified. For blasphemy you say. Well yes because Jesus made Himself equal to God and when does a good moral man puts himself equal to God? Jesus was either a looney or God in the flesh as spoken about in the writings of the people in & around that era. Here then where it takes Faith.

@ImagesByDavid 1. Yes I think Jesus probably was crucified for blasphemy and/or sedition. That doesn't mean he was resurrected or a god. 2. People come up with mad stories all the time for many reasons. It's really easy - ask the mormons. They are easy to sell too. 3. History books have CLAIMS which I don't take on faith, with usually checkable evidence. No evidence, no believe. I check & decide based on volume & quality of evidence. For the jesus stories there are no other contemporary sources.

You may have all the time in the world to spend on the internet but I don't. It has taken me months to answer these. I'm a professional in what I do. What you mean you don't believe Jesus was crucified on the cross?
You cant come up to someone with a story like whats in the bible without any psychical knowledge that it existed. A history book has knowledge and when you read a history book you take on faith that its true.

@ImagesByDavid "you made a lot of comments" Indeed I did; in answer to yours, a thing I believe to be courteous. I believe in the historical Jesus. However the historical Jesus is not really in the bible; there are bits of the story that may be & some of his sayings are pretty well accepted by scholars but most of it is made up after the fact & indeed much is contradictory. As I said, just cos he was alive doesn't mean what he said/was said about him is true. Again, you've faith not knowledge.,

you made alot of comments..I dont really have the time to go through each one..
I base my faith/belief that the stories in the Bible about certain people did exist for real i.e knowledge.. You do believe in the historical Jesus right?
-
@ImagesByDavid I like the way you ignore almost my whole comment. Anyhoo- Many biblical people & places are known to have existed. Many are myth; Adam & Eve, Noah, Moses etc. Many are hyped up versions of people who may have existed (say Mary, David). Just cos a person/place exists doesn't mean the things claimed to have happened there actually happened. Even if Jesus' sermons WERE reported verbatim it doesn't mean he was telling the truth. You've faith in scripture's content, not knowlegde.

"Surely the point of religious faith is belief not knowledge"
I base my faith on the knowledge that the people and places spoken about in the Scriptures existed.
