  • Hi Davie,

I've been tying for a little while now and tie several patterns you have shown. I'm still amazed at the skill and dexterity you have with any pattern you demonstrate. The patterns are unasuming but very effective like this Daddy Snatcher. I've just tied one like it think your combination of elements is just perfect. I like your clear, simple and self-effacing style. Thanks again. Hans

question: how do you avoid tangles with shear thread on a Rite bobbin holder?

  • Hi staart7477,

I appreciate the kind comments.. I'm sorry I have never used a Rite bobbin holder so I can't help but if I get a chance to have a look or a go with one I'll get back in touch..

    All the best Davie

  • I fished your pattern this evening at Syon park. Very effective! Only thing is I tied them on a Kamasan b110 size 10 and found the fly sinks fairly easily. Will it make a difference to use a lighter hook? which one? is there anything one can tie in to make the fly a bit more buoyant?

    cheers,

    Hans

  • Hi Hans,

It would help if you used a lighter hook or make the dressing a bit more heavier, the hook I use is the Super Grub by Fulling mill which is lighter and just as strong as the B110..

Let me know how you get on..

    All the best Davie

  • a b100 also works well i find, especially with a bit more hackle over the body and head. Tying knots in pheasant tail fibres is interesting! best to make a loop near the top of the fibre. I can't imagine how someone somewhere is tying these knots on the feather itself.

    cheers,

    Hans

  • Hi Davie, I dont have to watch the video to know that the fly your tying will be superb you make it look so easy, when i tye this fly i hope i can do it justice, Alan

  • It's soo entertaining watching you work at the vise Davie! Thanks for all work that you've posted! Fly Fishing is incredibly rewarding! Can't even think of fishing any other way. Cheers and keep up the great work!

  • Hi Ted (tdematteo01),

The Snatcher was a fly tyed by the anglers that fish one of Scotlands best known brown trout lochs, Loch Leven. It works well when midge are hatching and as well caddis flies, just tye it in different sizes and colours and I'm sure you will pick up a few fish on them..

    All the best Davie
