Thank you so much for the most moving montage of Yelena I have seen - so thoughtfully put together. Yelena Mukhina was the best gymnast the Soviet Union ever produced, very sad they never treated her better as she had a very sad life from start to finish. The world has never seen such an amazing ability with such grace and elegance and indeed never will again. Yelena Mukhina a beautiful heart a beautiful girl and a beautiful gymnast. Love you forever. x

You belong to the skies, sweety. I hope you are an angel now teaching angels how to fly. Kudos Elena Mukhina

@Katelinanator Her mother died in a fire, she was raised by her grandma, who looked atfer her even after her accident. There were stories that she received a lot of benefits by the communist government, when they were actually living in a one-room flat. Fucking cruel with her, if you'll excuse my French....

Her story is so sad and touching. Her coach should die in hell for making her do those skills. I feel like Yelena was never happy though. Just wondering, how did her parents die?
-
You left us five years ago today, Yelena, but we haven't forgotten you or your beautiful gymnastics. Rest in peace always.

in 1980 her coach forced her to do the Thomas jump even if her ankle was in terrible conditions, so she didn't manage to finish the jump and fell on her chin, breaking her cervical vertebrae....so she stayed paralyzed in a wheel chair for 26 years and eventually died because of an heart attack, I think, or something having to do with heart anyway
December 22, 2010. You left us on a day like today four years ago. Life deprived us of an angel that walked the earth and showed us how acrobatics are performed in heavens. In this cruel world of today, where pointing the finger and blaming others is the norm, your courage, humbleness and stoicism should will forever guide us through the path that leads to becoming better human beings. Your legacy and love for the sport will never be forgotten. May you rest in peace always, Beautiful Queen!

You can thank the Soviet machine for what happened to this girl. They pushed her beyond what she was capable of just to prove to the world of their supposed superiority of the communist system. Thank God that rotten system collapsed when it did. Naturally they tried to cover up the events from the rest of the world like they always did when things didn't work out for them.
