On the 24th September 1998, Brian Friels's play "Dancing at Lughnasa" had its film premiere in the town on which it is based, Glenties in Co. Donegal. Meryl Streep, Sophie Thompson, Noel Pearson along with Brian Friel, were there to witness a bit of Hollywood in Glenties, for one night only.

This year at the MacGill Summer School, Brian Friel will be honoured, with several of his play being performed in Glenties, which runs from the 12th to the 19th of July 2008.
