  • I had a sergeant when I was at Ft. Riley who used to dump globs of CLP into our rifles through the open ejection port before we'd go up at the range. My friend told me this was nuts and bad for the gun, but in my experience I had fewer jams after doing it, even if it meant I had to spend more time cleaning the rifle. Does any one have an opinion?

  • @meyerjac M-16's and AR-15's do run well wet. However, on a bolt action rifle with a nice wood stock, you'll not only make a mess of the rifle and risk poor cold weather performance, you will also ruin the stock - the wood will soak up the oil.

As you mentioned, running wet will cause more dirty build up and can make your gun more difficult to clean.

A well maintained and clean gun with the right amount of oil on moving parts will stay cleaner and work better for the long-haul.
