Ignition Coil Driver Circuit and Demo for Tesla Coil.
Essentially built this up.....http://datasheetreference.com/component/content/article/16/87-ignition-coil-driver.html....
Make sure you have a low frequency and high frequency decoupling cap to ground at the power pin to the 555 timer. Shunt a .01 and a 4.7uF cap in parallel to ground for that. One of the pots we used was 5K instead of 10K. Either will work OK. One side of Spark gap connected to HV side of coil. The other side of spark gap connected to Ground. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD EARTH GROUND.... Connect to Steel or Copper house water pipe or drive steel rod into the ground outside.

  • The RC circuit on the primary winding terminal is and RFI filter. I think we used .47uf and 1K ohm resistor. It prevents Radio Frequency RFI back EMF from getting on the 555 timer board. You can also put a couple home made coils on the ground and 12V lines between the ignition coil and the 555 board. I didn't do it here. It may help in your configuration.
