Greetings! I got aquainted with Mr. McShann working on the stage crew at some of his shows. He was a beautiful cat! Hope you make it to Kansas City sometime & try to come in Late August for the Charlie Parker graveside "21 Sax Salute". Also in KC don't miss the all night jams at the Mutual Musicians Foundation (Fri. & Sat. nites). Best jazz ventue in the world! Best wishes!

I quite agree, Walter Brown had few - if any - peers. Great band, great singer, great post.

Thank you for watching^^! Oh, you grew up in Kansas City. It's Envied environment. McShann's Band had Reformative style,at that time. But still now , The sound of Mcshann and Walter Brown's voice is very very modern. My dream is go to Kansas City, and visit the grave of Charlie Parker at Lincoln Cemetery.

My English skill is not good enough, but I hope, you'll understand my deep feelings.

    Many many thanks♪♪

I grew up in Kansas City and got to meet Jay many times and see him perform many times in many settings. His big band was the last Kansas City band to make it big and probably its most sophisticated with the charts that Parker was beginning to do for him. Jay also launched one of the greatest blues singers ever, Walter Brown. Jay himself was an excellent singer, but thought of himself more as a bandleader and pianist back then. It took someone as great as Walter Brown to make you forget that.
