This is a small tutorial on Renoise's Gate DSP that I made whilst fooling around with Camtasia. I've chopped out some of the boring/crappy parts btw ;)

  • a what does the floor do when u set it to something like 1.0 and -23. on a gate or expander. because it seem to do something different when i it pass 0.0 and when it goes below it does something different.

  • The floor is the volume it gates to... by default, it gates all noise out by setting its gain to -infinite db .... which is essentially silence. You can turn the floor up to get a less harsh gating effect.

  • Beat Sync makes sure the sample you're playing conforms to a certain number of lines at your current BPM... so you don't end up with a beat that's too short or too long to loop nicely.

  • 8:30 it was supose to be a joke right?

  • I don't usually use the moog filter, so I wasn't expecting so much resonance :p ... damn, that new time highlighting feature youtube implemented is nice :D

  • What tool did you use to make the vid?

    I really enjoyed.

  • Check the description :p

  • At 0:01, man, I'm so glad that was a joke and not your real accent/voice. That would have made the video painful!

PS: I'm British. Man, that is such a stereotype accent. Only the Queen speaks like that.

  • thank you for making this vid!!! gating and delay on drums. i like you indeed. i have a lot of fun using delay and then gate. the trick is to set the delay times just right to get that lilt that sounds right. also automating the delay times will give you some (to me) interesting glitchy results. sending many tracks (ie-vocals, beat, various sample) through the delay/gate combo is fun as well. thanks again!

  • thanks man. do expanders do the same, when i push the floor up it seems like it boost's it up.

  • why do you press SINC????

  • Thanks for this!!

And by the way, with which program have you recorded this video?
