Line up all the jockeys & horses who ever raced. Then let the jockeys pick which horse they would want to ride. Give me just 5 seconds to decide.

I bet ya over 90% or more of them would hop on that big red horse that ran a Belmont in 2:24 flat. What do you think? (smile)

What a man--so smooth and beautifully built. Note groom Eddy Sweat there..great book about Secretariat and Eddy, and their relationship. "The Horse that God Built" by Lawrence Scanlan. Good reading. Can you imagine a race between Big Red and Ruffian??

@ OctoberBoy52

Eddy Sweat noted! I was wondering about him and the other Black man who seemed closest to the horse --- there hearts are in that horse, you know? And probably knew Secretariat more than anyone else. I'll definitely get that book.

In the fall of 1989, Secretariat was afflicted with laminitis, a painful and often incurable hoof condition. When his condition failed to improve, he was euthanized on October 4 at the age of 19. Secretariat was buried at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky, given the rare honor of being buried whole; usually only the head, heart and hooves of a winning race horse are buried, the rest cremated.Post-mortem exam showed that his heart weighed 22 pounds, the largest ever recorded for a racehorse.
