This seems under resolved... how big is the mesh that you are using?

this makes me miss college :(

@Dadj0 Of course it is better to try 3D with LES and that is why the above simulation is 3D!!! What you see is just a slice of the 3D domain.

@brianjpetersen it is better to try 3D with LES/DES/DNS

Given Re=10^7 you should get fully developed turbulence downstream the cylinder with no regular vortex shedding. It's interesting what the Mach number was...

Is that a finite or infinite cylinder? At what angle does separation occur?

Hi prapanjgr,
Very cool animation. I am learning OpenFOAM and would like to do a similar calculation for unsteady 2D incompressible flow normal to a flat plate using LES. Unfortunately, I haven't found too much direction online.
I'm sort of at a loss for how to begin using the LES solver to do this. Could you please point me in the right direction?
Many thanks,
Brian
Have you looked at the force coefficients compared to experimental? What Re are you considering?

yup I have looked at the force coefficients. They were ok, and atleast intuitive where not ok. I am considering Re close to 10^7
