This video shows what you can do (at the basic level) with the free software "LMMS" in combination with an entry-level keyboard, including synthesisers, samples (under creative commons license) and more. I am still a keyboard novice (in my opinion), but am certainly enjoying the sorts of things possible with LMMS.

The PC used to render the music is 4 years old, with average specs - AMD 3400+, 1GB RAM. I'm using XP because Ubuntu hates my keyboard.

More info is available as you watch the video.

  • I know that E413 has mini-usb (or micro), did you use usb - mini-usb cable or midi - usb? I have E303, there're only midi in/out and audio.

  • @KazekiriFlora It has the same cable you might use for a printer. Don't know what that's called?

  • hey buddy i have the same keyboard when i used fl studio, when i press keys on my keyboard the sound delay how could i fix it..

  • @AvishtPiano If you have windows, there's no way at the moment, not with LMMS at least. On Linux it has no latency.

  • I have really bad input lag using my roland midi keyboard with windows, and can't fix it, does anyone know how to fix this?

Trying ASIO4all but apparently it doesn't work with LMMS

    cheers

  • Hey! I have got LMMS and I produce with AKAI MPK Mini.... Well, i have got a question for you... In my MPK has got pads... How can i put different sounds on the pads with LMMS?

If you can help me i would really appreciate it :D

  • this is interesting...I bought a midi to usb (not firewire) and it works well.

  • You should have turned on the lava lamp ;-)

  • @mazza558 Oh, I know this one, but my synth hasn't this jack(( Seems I have to buy midi - usb cable. Thanks.

  • @obscurecult Windows has latency (lag) between LMMS and the keyboard. It's just the way its sound system works, and unfortunately LMMS doesn't yet work with the free low-latency alternative (name escapes me at the mo).
