Self Portrait Video Assignment
"Portrait Over Time -- DiMo" is a self portrait time based media project focusing on the environmental diversity the artist contacts in the time frame of a week. The viewers are shown a range of places both outdoors and indoors, with the constant subject of the artist is shown walking deeper into the frame. Through the repetitive walking, the artist demonstrates a way or path that the artist himself is walking. This calls to mind metaphors of life being a path or road that has both a beginning and an end. The variety of places chosen by the artist shows the audience a deeper insight into the places the artist often finds himself. A selection of photographs where used in the title opening to hint the artist's photographic background.
"Portrait Over Time -- DiMo" is heavily influenced by a movie named "Enter the Void" directed by Gaspar Noé. The use of the portal transitions are a derivative of Noé's movie. The music for the piece is named "River Flows in You (Club Mix Money-G Mix)" by Jasper Forks. The selection of this song is because of the lack of vocals as well as the fast paced rhythm that compliments the fast cuts of the piece.
