Furthur is a rock band founded in 2009 by former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Phil Lesh. The band's lineup also includes John Kadlecik of the Dark Star Orchestra on guitar, Jeff Chimenti of RatDog on keyboards, Jay Lane of RatDog on drums, and Joe Russo of the Benevento/Russo Duo on drums.[1]
[edit]History
In 2008, for the first time in four years, Bob Weir and Phil Lesh began performing together, with a reunion of The Dead. A few months after The Dead's 2009 tour the musicians announced that they had formed a new band with Kadlecik, Chimenti, Lane, and Russo.
The band debuted with performances on September 2009, at the Fox Theatre in Oakland, California. They followed those shows up with a handful of more dates during 2009 including 5 shows in the northeast,[2] as well as live rehearsal sessions[3] and two New Years shows in California. During the New Years eve performances the band was joined by backing vocalists Zoe Ellis and Sunshine Garcia (no relation to Jerry Garcia). The band is also touring the U.S. from the 2nd of February through the 8th of March 2010, and will perform in San Francisco to celebrate Phil Lesh's 70th birthday.[4]

@Aryozad - dude my favorite bands used to be like Slayer, Sabbath, Pantera, Murphy's, etc. but these guys with this music just blows almost everything else outa the f-in water... it also must help that i don't hate everyone in the world anymore :)~ Granted those bands are awesome in their own right and i still listen to em on occasion.. these and Phish shows are totally indescribable (i find a lil better vibe at Dead shows though being more of an older and relaxed crowd)...

can anybody tell me why my enjoyment of grateful dead music has become very obsessive, beginning slowly to hinder my listening to other artists? is it something inherent in their music that is different to anything else?? I dont know, but one year and an ever increasing collection of albums with date and places in their titles is telling me i should know by now..
