She ran out into the snow
As she watched the indents made as his feet turned to go
And she called out
But no sound came out
And he got in the car and drove away

She sat on the front doorstep for days
Wondering why he hadn't wanted to stay
She dreamed the lights
Came out so bright
But she opened her eyes and

Somehow trying to forget
That all of her happiness
Was somewhere down the highway in the dark
Made Christmas time so hard

Her mom called and texted all the time
Trying to get her daughter to smile
Her daddy arrived
Pulled up in the drive
And she wouldn't even move from the step

Wouldn't even try to lift her head
