Micronesian sounds like a bacterium

i have a question, micronesia is very close to the philippines. & when captain cook went to polynesia, much farther than micronesia, the polynesian said that they traveled back & forth from asia riding the current. so wouldn't micronesians have been the same? why would they have been isolated? they had seafaring technology, their ancestors came from a culture of sea travel built up for hundreds of yrs, why would they not have traveled back & forth?
