@Geron1mo1 Wunderlich is brilliant, but so are Axel Schiotz and Leopold Simoneau. Each gives Mozart's aria something new.

Joseph Schmidt´s voice is second to none! Please also include his recording of Richard Tauber´s excellent "Du bist die Welt für mich", with the composer as conducter.

I also listen to Joseph Schmidt every second day atleast. That doesn't include the amount of times during those days lol. His passion is evident in his honey like voice. I don't believe any tenor comes close to Joseph; however feel free to reply to my post if you think someone is as good. I have heard the same songs sung from Enrico Curuso and believe Joseph has more talent and passion. That could just be the recording quality of the era though! Ivan Rebroff is an amazing talent also.

Well I listen to Joseph Schmidt almost every day, I first heard his voice when I was about 17 years old maybe younger and loved his singing I only heard about 4 recordings of his and could not find any CD's till I went on line 50 years later he is my number one of my top five tenors Erl Roe of New Zealand

What a voice - what empathy! There are only three tenors that have made me weep violently: Joseph Schmidt, Jussi Björling and Enrico Caruso.

The "competitors" (Björling, Gigli, etc) of his age may have been more famous and celebrated, but Joseph Schmidt remains for me one of the greatest tenors of all times.

Just revisted this again. IMO, Joseph Schmidt has a very rare empathy in his singing. - Almost "Caruso-like" ...

This is being compared to the beautiful voice of Fritz Wunderlich. They are both great. But for me Joseph Schmidt in wonderful Mozart aria creates a greater emotional response than Fritz Wunderlich.
