@bbbiggs Though your comment is 3 years old, I just have to say that my jazz band is play Blue Rondo and our Wind Ensemble is playing Vesuvius. What a 3 year coincidence.

Always going to be difficult replicating a Classic Like this,Ive recently bought an arrangement for Big Band of Blue Ronda and Im hoping to adapt it for the 10 piece Ensemble That I Play with.....10 out of 10 for having the Balls to tackle a Really difficult Structured Piece of Music.....Good Sax Solo at 2.28!! This Just has to be one of the all time Jazz Classics In My Humble Opinion.....
-
I like the arrangment, has potential, just need to get it solid.
-
good except the beginning and 1:25 and the trumpet players need to hold their trumpets up to be parallel with the ground....
-
A travesty. Hurts my ears...

Although not the small ensemble sound that Brubeck's original quartet is known for (we cant expect a full orchestra to match that intimate sound of Brubeck and Desmonds unique "dry-martini" sax) This was a fine impromtu effort. I noted especially the solo sax in the second verse, this young student seems to have listened to much John Coltrane. A fine solo effort to improvise a new rendition to this great masterpiece by Brubeck and Desmond. Could be a great football halftime contribution!

I've noticed people wondering why they are playing it differently. There is a Kris Burg version (which seems to be played by many highschool jazz bands), which is made for big bands, and the original version, which is made for small jazz quartets. I personally like the original better.

yea lets stick to original combo arrangement

you call that jazz? that was the worst rendition of blue rondo a la turk ive ever heard
totally agree, this arrangement completely disregards the style in which the song was written...sounds like a fight theme from a 70's tv show
