12 day old Baby Meyers Feeding time

Listen to this baby chirp to let me know it is feeding time!! After I feed her she quiets down for 3 or so hours and then she chirps again to remind me to feed her!!

Unfortunately there was just one baby in this clutch. The parents have already had two successful clutches this year. They then had another clutch in which all the babies died as she decided not to feed them. When she had this clutch I took a chance and gave the one fertile egg to a pair of Sun conures. The sun conures were sitting on some infertile eggs. The sun conures really surprised me and fed this baby for a good 7 days. I didn't want to leave the baby too long with the sun conures as I was worried the momma would notice the african meyers baby was acting different than the conure babies she has fed in the past. I was afraid she would kill the baby thinking there was something wrong with the baby.

This baby is doing terrific now and eats very well.

and how do you know when its eyes are open wat happens?

You will know when the eyes are open because the skin over the eye balls splits open and you will see the eye open.

How many clutches do you allow a breeding pair to have each year?

I usually let nature take it's course unless the pair has health issues. I took the nest box away from this pair of meyers......however, the female laid eggs in her food bowl which is why there was just one baby this time.
