The brand new 787 jetliner took to the gray skies over Puget Sound Tuesday morning, leaving Everett's Paine Field at 10:27 a.m.; an inaugural flight two years later than originally planned. http://www.komonews.com/news/local/79323497.html

  • The first flight was in ITALY.

  • @celtavigo77 I disagree. You point to Concorde as "important", yet it wasn't particulaly. It was a fantastic piece of engineering but it never revolutionised travel, simply because of the small number that were built (only 14 comercial examples.) It was more of a novelty than anything else. The 787, however, is massively important for the aviation inudstry - in a way the Concorde never was, and in a way that the A380 aspires to be.

  • @blueb0g "IMPORTANT AVIATION FEAT" How many concorde's were there?!? 1000?!? No! It was still a major aviation feat! Just as the A380 will be... the 1st proper Double Decker. People will remember it, as the 747. The 787 will blend into all twin aircraft

  • @celtavigo77 Don't really agree with that. The 787 is going to be much for important for international flying than the A380, simply because there will only be around 300 A380s but there will be over 1,000 787s, with any luck.

  • The A380 was a more important aviation feat (like concorde/707/747) More so than the 787...

  • The engines don't have the nacel with them, its part of the airframe! And boeings first one with the genx isn't even built yet, Its ZA005 thats fited with the GEnx. Listento the 747-800 take off and compare the sound.

  • If i'm not mistaken, it already has the Ge-nx! Thats the version with the wavy cowl design, if you look closely you can actually see that, I may be wrong tho.

  • Glad I could clear that up for ya but i'm with you on this one, its not a big deal as a matter of fact, I could care less if I saw it in person at an airport. I would just take my flight and get from point A to point B ... now if it was an A380 ..... id be interested to know what it feels like when that big ass mother fucker lifts off the ground but a puny plane the size of 767? Bah, no fun in that, lol.

  • Yeah that makes sense, i can see why now. lol Thx!

  • No big deal? New material used (carbon fiber reinforced plastics), new manufacturing process, new passenger experience (lower altitude pressure cabin, high humidity) that will mitigate jet lag, electronic dim windows. 20% more efficient than existing aircraft. No more worry about corrosion and fatigue. Airlines really want this aircraft. Imagine the savings they will get from fuel burn and maintenance. It's like before you have a crown vic for taxi. Now you have a Prius.
