Deep in the steep mountains of Northern Ethiopia, over 13,000 people live in the remote and expansive area of Senale. Each day, the women and children of Senale collect their families' drinking water from dirty springs or contaminated streams.
This water often brings with it disease and even death. Despite being plagued with illness from waterborne disease, many of the villages in the area have no health facility available to them.
If there is time after collecting their daily water, the children make the trek to one of the small rural schools, many in the area are made of sticks and mud often without doors or windows.
Glimmer's integrated community development program in Senale will include the construction of health, water and education projects.
