Gas Pump Explosion Caused by Static Electricity

Guy fills a gas can in the back of his truck. Static electricity builds up and sparks causing the fire. Mr. Brilliant pulls the hose out of the gas can and sprays gas and fire all over his truck. Alexandria, La.

A few months ago, I read about an explosion in a gas station in South Korea and 3 people died.....At least on this one there was a hose nearby to put out the fire quickly.
I think vigilance and extra precautions should be taken when filling up at these gas stations to avoid accidents.

physical chemistry of the combustion reaction that spontaneously erupted from the discharge... why it spread when he pulled the pump out (projectile motion and rectilinear kinematics) etc.

@allen2688 the static eletricity did not come from the guys hand. He made two mistakes. One, filling up the gas container in his truck and two, pulling the hose out once it caught fire.
