  • @andysepul1 I haven't heard of using a waist collar so that the dog does not associate with the decoy. I don't see the logic in that reasoning. Waist collars are generally used for precision work. ie. point of pressure/contact (dog move away from) so collar on left hip pulls hip in tighter to handler. (the way some use a heeling stick) IMO, this should only be attempted by experienced e-collar users.

  • @ThatsMyDogInc Have you ever used a e-collar on a dogs waist before? I was on a working dog forum and they were talking about it and how they use it so the dog doesn't associate the stim to the decoy and they clearly know the stim is coming from the handler. I was just wondering if it can also be used in dog aggression. This way the dog doesn't think the stim is coming from the other dog or person and makes things worse. They said they only use it at a very low level stim.

  • @andysepul1 Yeah, good to hear! Please let me know if you have questions once you get started. Make the learning fun and you'll both do great.

  • @ThatsMyDogInc Sorry i took so long the respond. Had a problem with my computer.

I started putting the e-collar on and then treating him. I also started leaving it on him during the day. He is doing a lot better. He doesn't shut down anymore. It even seems like he's starting to like when i put the collar on.

Im planning on purchasing your dvds before i start using the collar.

Thank you very much for the help

  • @andysepul1 Yes, it can be fixed. You need to change the dog's association with the collar and possibly with the idea of training, depending on what the dog's experience has been so far. Putting the collar on should = good things (treats, walks, toys, games, etc) don't let the dog "shut down", get him moving right away. Let him wear it as a normal part of life (eating, playing, napping) This will help. When you start introducing the collar keep the level low, make it fun for the dog.

  • @ThatsMyDogInc Is it possible to fix a dog that has been screwed up by a bark collar? and now is scared of haveing a e-collar on. I haven't even turned it on. I don't even want to attempt it because i don't have the experienced to deal with this situation

  • @ThatsMyDogInc That was the second half to my post. I haven't used it on the dog im fostering but i've used it on my own dogs, it works pretty well. I learned from Lou Castles website he said in a working dog forum that his method is like yours. had a problem with the recall and used Lou's method and it worked very well. I wanted to use the method with the dog I'm fostering but he shuts down when i put it on so i figured i shouldn't use it on him till i can get someone to help me.

  • @andysepul1 You can use both. I use verbal markers with my e-collar training. The two can blend very well. However, if you are new to the use of the e-collar get some help in learning the techniques. As you can see from the video clip e-collar use can be a positive experience for the dog and lead to a happy and well trained pet. It just takes a little education to learn how to do it this way. Thank you for the kind words.

  • I use marker training to train him now but was just wondering if its possible to get him use to the e-collar.

    I love your videos.

  • If a dog was screwed up by a e-collar is there a way to fix it. Im fostering this dog that shuts down when i put the e-collar on him. I haven't even turned it on yet i just put it on him to kind of get him use to it but he seems to be very scared of it. He is a very playful dog with a lot of energy but once i put the e-collar on him he shuts down and get scared. the old owner put a bark collar on him when he was at work. It was set really high and fried the dog.
