May 23, 2000 - Too Human lingered in development for some time, until its developer, Silicon Knights, was acquired by Nintendo to become part of their coalition of second-party developers. As a result of the deal, and SK's move to working on their new Eternal Darkness project, Too Human was cancelled. Too human indeed...

First Impressions E3 update
Too Human looks to be the first massive adventure game on the PlayStation that blends in Blade Runner themes and stylistic sensibilities with a storyline that rivals Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy VII. Wow, that's a whole lot to believe and to handle, but the gigantic four-disc game takes on a lot and could very well deliver.

[...]

In this futuristic world, people are part human, part machine, and your character's limbs, neck, head, and just about everything else except his organs can be replaced by chips and machinery. The player will have the option of enhancing his body with cybernetic enhancements at the start of missions, and will be able to customize the character in line with the way they choose to play the game.

For example, a player who prefers the Metal Gear Solid approach may wish to enhance leg strength to be able to move more quickly and stealthily through the game, whereas another player might wish to increase arm and torso strength to be able to carry more deadly implements of destruction. The choices made by the player will have a direct bearing on the gameplay in this manner.

Too Human, developed exclusively for the PlayStation, has been in the works for almost two plus years now. The 45-person strong team has created a new portal driven engine that practically eliminates fogging altogether. Broad, detailed landscapes free of fogging stretch immense distances, enabling a sense of realism that unseen on the PlayStation to date.

  • this game probably would have had 8 discs

  • @kcking23 Also the fps Prey was supposed to be out back in the late 90s.

  • Lol it looks better on the PS1 then 3shitty

  • This version has a better camera.

  • well... xbox 360, but even so we were very surprised... Actually we were moderately disappointed with how it turned out

  • Ya know whats crazy is I still have a magazine that advertized this for ps1, then one that showed it for gamecube a few years later. I was actually surprized when it came out for xbox cause a friend of mine got it and i showed him both, even he was surprised

  • Though I have to say, as a PS1 game, it looked really good!

  • @Vexinator Yeah, I agree with you

  • Yeah, I remember seeing screenshots for this version way back in the December 1999 copy of Gamepro magazine, but that was the last I heard of it. Imagine my suprise when I see magazine ads for the 360 version, about 10 years later. It's sad that a game that stays in development for that long still turns out to be average at best.

  • @RockD79 So maybe it's available online..like Half-Life on Dreamcast.
